Membership of the Dental Council of NSW is appointed by His Excellency the Governor of NSW. Following a recent call for Expressions of Interest, a selection panel was established, independent of the Dental Council of NSW, to identify suitable candidates who had expressed interest in a Dental Council position. Suitable candidates were put forward for consideration by the Minister for Health and the Minister for Medical Research and final approval by the Governor.

As a result of this, I am pleased to advise of the following appointments:

Mr Claassens is replacing the retiring Mr Stephen McGlynn as the dental prosthetist representative member. Mr McGlynn ended his term on 30 June 2018 and I would like to extend my gratitude to him for his service to the Council, and the profession at large, during his term.

To ensure appropriate succession planning, and ongoing corporate knowledge, Conjoint Associate Professor O’Reilly determined that, after six years on the Council, he would not seek reappointment as President. For the same reasons, Dr Burns determined that, for the remainder of her term she would not seek reappointment as Deputy President. However they were both happy to put their names forward to continue to serve on the Council as members.

On behalf of the Council, I would like to acknowledge both the leadership demonstrated by Conjoint Associate Professor O’Reilly and Dr Burns and their enormous contribution to the important work of the Council to date. I am also pleased that their experience and knowledge will not be lost to the Council at this time.
